Or it could simply be something that would entertain you or brighten your day, like the natural world or your favourite colour? Perhaps you would like to see something that Droitwich Spa is famous for, or something special in your community? We want to hear from you about what you would like to see represented in the new artworks. Worcestershire County Council is also supporting the scheme.Ī steering group of local stakeholders oversees the project, with representatives from organisations including Droitwich Arts Network, Westlands Residents Group, Droitwich Action for Future Youth, Droitwich Spa Youth Council, Droitwich Spa High School, Platform Housing Group, Droitwich Standard, and West Mercia Police. The project is funded by Wychavon District Council, Droitwich Spa Town Council and money from the Government's Welcome Back Fund which comes from the European Regional Development Fund. The pieces will explore a range of themes, with decisions for each site taken in consultation with residents. Professional artists will work with schools and community groups to design colourful artworks based on ideas from local people. Other works to improve the sites will also take place, such as lighting upgrades. The aim is to promote local pride by celebrating the community and history of the town, as well as improve the look and feel of these sites to increase walking and cycling opportunities. There were also pop-up shops and an artist sharing session hosted by Artsite, and the Swindon Hub.The Droitwich Spa Underpass Art Project, led by Wychavon, will transform seven underpasses across the town into outdoor pieces of artwork. ![]() The event was organised by artists Caryn Koh, Sally Taylor and Organiser Helen Salter on behalf of Artsite - an artist led self-funded charity, in partnership with Inswindon BID.Ī whole host of local artists took part in live painting sessions, hosted workshops, and exhibited their artwork for the Swindon public to see. Swindon's first 'Paint Fest' was held last October, with aims of showcasing and initiating murals and street art into the town centre and beyond, as part of the town’s regeneration and bring a positive change in people’s perception of Swindon. The mural is so massive, you'd need to walk through and experience it for yourself." Inside the underpass itself, a bright and colourful design using shapes and images of people exercising, can be found spanning the entire length of the walkway.Ī spokesperson from Swindon Paint Fest - an organisation that held Swindon's first graffiti and street art festival last year - said: "This artwork is just absolutely breathtaking. The flower designs appearing on the front of the underpass are said to be a depiction of the flowers found within the Old Town Gardens. Local artists Paul Exton, Curtis Hylton and Caryn Koh were supported by Swindon Borough Council for this art project. The underpass that connects Marlowe Avenue to Eastern Way has been transformed with the use of bright colours, shapes, and flowers. ![]()
